Subject:Serial Set-New Cataloging & Accessioning Procedures
Content-Type:text/plain
Library Services and Content Management (LS&CM) has posted an informational
document entitled: "Cataloging & Accessing Congressional Serial Set
Publications"
<http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fdlp/cip/sscataloging2006.pdf>. These new
procedures were developed as a result of an evaluation of cataloging policy
that was conducted as part of a request to discontinue production of the
printed Monthly Catalog and the U.S. Congressional Serial Set Catalog.
The new procedures increase cross references between records for the
individual publications and their Serial Set volumes. These cross references
and a separate database within the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications
(CGP) (http://catalog.gpo.gov) for Serial Set publications assist users by
increasing access to these publications.
The new procedures were discussed with the ALA GODORT Cataloging Committee
in June 2006 and draft copies of this document were handed out to
participants at the Interagency Seminar in August 2006. At 10:30 on
Tuesday, October 24 at the Fall Depository Library Conference, there will be
a presentation discussing these new procedures and staff from the Office of
Bibliographic Control will be available at the Operational Open Forums
sessions to answer any questions you may have.
Comments about these new procedures can be forwarded to Ms. Jennifer Davis
at [log in to unmask] Please have your comments to her by November 13th.
