Officials Break Ground on New Air Traffic Control System Command Center
December 4 – The nation's air traffic control system will be managed at a new state-of-the-art facility near Warrenton, Virginia, in 2011. The new facility replaces the existing command center near Washington Dulles International Airport, which closes when its lease expires in 2011.
History Made at the South Pole
November 26 – The agency made history this fall when it used its own aircraft — rather than hitching a ride on military planes — to inspect runways at the South Pole.
New Aviation Research and Technology Park Advances NextGen Venture
November 24 – The new park will serve as a central location to perform research and development, testing, integration and verification of the technologies, concepts and procedures required by the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen).
