Scholarships
Each year the Louisiana 4-H Foundation recognizes high school graduates who have excelled in 4-H project work, community service, leadership and academic work through the Louisiana 4-H scholarship program.
To apply for a scholarship, club members must complete an application form (See Form Below), include a letter of recommendation and transcript of grades, and submit to the State 4-H office by Friday, March 13, 2009, at 4:30 p.m.
Applications are reviewed by a committee to determine the winners.
Scholarships provided by the Louisiana 4-H Foundation include:
The $1,100 Bruce Flint Scholarship was established in 1995 in memory of the 39-year career of Dr. Bruce Flint, who retired as vice chancellor emeritus of the LSU Agricultural Center in 1995.
The $1,000 Gloria Perkins Scholarship was established in 1985 to honor the late Gloria Perkins, a longtime supporter and leader of 4-H. The scholarship is awarded to a freshman majoring in animal science at LSU or any of its branches.
The $1,100 Carl & Beaulah Baldridge Scholarship was established in 1996 from the estate of the Baldridges with the largest single contribution to the Louisiana 4-H Foundation.
The $800 C.J. Naquin Leadership Scholarship was established in 1989 to honor the former state 4-H agent and executive director of the Louisiana 4-H Foundation.
The $550 Cliff Williams Scholarship was established in 1993 by his father, Charles O. Williams, and his father-in-law, James Justiss. Cliff, a 4-H alumnus from LaSalle Parish and a loyal supporter of 4-H, died in 1990.
The $600 Larry de la Bretonne Jr. Scholarship was established in 1991 to honor the associate specialist in aquaculture with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. The scholarship is awarded to a 4-H'er who will study aquaculture upon entering college.
The $600 Terril D. Faul Scholarship was created in honor of the former state director of the 4-H program, Terril Faul, and will be awarded to a full-time freshman entering college in any field of study at any accredited college or university in Louisiana.
The $500 Ruth Johnson Scholarship was established in 1990 by her family and friends upon her retirement in Lincoln Parish after more than 40 years as a teacher and 4-H supporter.
The $500 Lod Cook Scholarship was established in 1992 by Atlantic Richfield Company through the efforts of their CEO, Lod Cook, a former state 4-H president.
The $800 Gerry Lane Enterprises Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman at LSU in Baton Rouge.
The $450 Jason McClaran Memorial Scholarship was established in 1990 by Dr. and Mrs. William H. Waters to honor the memory of her grandson. The scholarship is awarded to a 4-H'er who plans to study dairy science at LSU.
The $500 Louisiana Milk Producer’s Association Scholarship is awarded to an incoming college freshman whose parents or grandparents are current dairymen or were former dairymen dating back to 1994.
The $450 Dr. and Mrs. Edward W. Gassie Scholarship was established in 1995 to honor Dr. Gassie upon his retirement after 36 years of service as a specialist with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service.
The $300 Mark Bonner Scholarship was established in 1986 to honor the former chairman of the Louisiana 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees and longtime supporter and sponsor of 4-H. He was executive vice president and general manager of the Association of Louisiana Electric Cooperatives, Inc.
The $550 McCrory Family Scholarship was established in 2005 upon the retirement of Joan McCrory after 35 years of service with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. The scholarship is made possible with those donations, along with donations in memory of Cecil McCrory, Dorothy McCrory, John McCrory and Luke LaSage. The scholarship is awarded to a 4-H'er with an emphasis in leadership and community service who will attend LSU.
The $300 Lee Berwick Scholarship was established 2001 and is awarded to a 4-H'er who will major in Animal Science.
The $400 A.P. & Beryl Parham Scholarship was established in 1997 to honor the memory of A.P. Parham, animal science specialist who retired in 1980, and his wife. The scholarship is awarded to a freshman majoring in animal science at LSU or any of its branches.
The $200 Joseph and Malvina Lamendola Scholarship was established in 1983 to honor the late district agent for the then-Southeastern District comprising 21 parishes.
The $300 Sidney and Cecile Wood Scholarship was established in 1997 to honor the parents of former 4-H Foundation trustee Gerald Wood. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating St. James Parish 4-H’er.
The $200 H.C. Sanders Scholarship was established in 1982 to honor the director emeritus of the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. It provides one $200 scholarship annually to former 4-H members enrolled as freshmen at any accredited college, university or trade school.
The $250 Holbern “Bot” Burch Scholarship was established in 1997 to honor the memory of Mr. Burch, a longtime dairy leader in Washington Parish. The $250 scholarship is awarded to a graduating Washington Parish 4-H’er.
The $200 Daniel Fontenot Scholarship was established in 1993 to honor Dr. Dan Fontenot on the occasion of his retirement as 4-H specialist after 37 years of service.
Sixty-four $100 Louisiana 4-H Foundation Scholarship are awarded to a 4-H'er in each parish based on achievement.
The $500 American Legion Scholarship which is awarded to a student majoring in agriculture at any college or university in Louisiana.
The $300 LSU Baton Rouge Scholarship is sponsored by the LSU College of Agriculture. It is awarded to delegates who attended 4-H University.
The $300 Beauregard Cattle Women Scholarship is awarded to a 4-H'er from Beauregard, Vernon or Allen parish.
