HHS/FDA Report Outlines Progress in Implementing Food-Protection Plan

December 1, 2008 - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released a progress report on the steps it has taken in the past year to implement the Food-Protection Plan HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt released one year ago.

 

Upon the release of the update, HHS/FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach, M.D., said, "Science and 21st century technologies help drive HHS/FDA's efforts to transform our food-safety efforts from the Food Protection Plan into a reality.  Every day, HHS/FDA is working with foreign countries, state and local Governments, regulated industry and consumer groups to ensure the safety of the food supply."
