On the Issues

Fort Riley

On March 26, Susan joined Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton and several of her House colleagues on a trip to Ft. Riley, KS.  The purpose of the trip was to observe the training of Military Transition Teams, or MiTTs.  MiTTs are responsible for training Iraqi security forces, a mission critical to our success in Iraq.

Susan visits with sailors from San Diego.

Susan talks with MiTTs team members before they deploy to Iraq.  About half of the eleven-member team volunteered for the specific mission.

As part of their training, soldiers at Ft. Riley simulate real-life problems faced by service members in Iraq.  In this case, the town Sheik and the American commander were discussing local issues through an Arabic translator.
