Before construction on the Maryland Avenue underground annex begins, a perimeter construction fence will be placed around the construction site. The fencing is scheduled to be in place by early July. The fencing will be similar to the fencing used around other construction projects on Capitol Hill, including the Capitol Visitor Center. In order to allow controlled access for construction vehicles, and to help contain dust and noise, the fencing will run along the center line of Maryland Avenue from First Street, around the island park, along Second Street to the North driveway of the Court. The North side of Maryland Avenue will remain open to westbound, one-way traffic entering at the intersection of Maryland and Constitution Avenues. Parking will not be affected on the North side of Maryland Avenue. The South side of Maryland Avenue (between First and Second Streets) will be closed to through-traffic and public parking. The sidewalk on the South side of Maryland Avenue will be closed from near the steps closest to First Street to Second Street. The Maryland Avenue entrance to the Court will remain open, as will the sidewalks on both sides of Second Street. Construction workers will park in public lots and will not be permitted to park on neighboring streets during the project.
