ATTORNEY GENERAL ASHCROFT WELCOMES WHITE HOUSE NOMINEE

WASHINGTON, D.C. Attorney General John Ashcroft today welcomed President George W. Bush's announcement of his intention to nominate Eileen J. O'Connor to be Assistant Attorney General for the Tax Division.

"I am pleased Eileen O'Connor will be joining us," Ashcroft said. "She brings a wealth of knowledge and an impressive array of experience. She will be an asset to both the Tax Division and the Department of Justice."

O'Connor is currently an Officer for Tax Services with the accounting firm of Aronson, Fetridge and Weigle, where she works with accounting firms around the world and serves as a liaison to the Internal Revenue Service.

From 1984-1999, O'Connor worked at the Office of Federal Tax Services at the accounting and consulting firm of Grant Thornton. Previously, she served as a corporation tax law specialist at the National Office of the IRS. Throughout her career, she has represented hundreds of clients before the IRS National Office and the Department Treasury and has assisted in the representation of hundreds more at the examination and appeals levels.

O'Connor is an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University Law School and served previously as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Law School. She is a frequent speaker at business and professional conferences across the country.

O'Connor received her undergraduate degree from Columbus State University and her law degree from Catholic University. She is active in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is a member of the District of Columbia and Federal Bar Associations.
