ATTORNEY GENERAL JOHN ASHCROFT'S STATEMENT REGARDING THE

PASSAGE OF ANTI-TERRORISM LEGISLATION BY CONGRESS

WASHINGTON, D.C. Attorney General John Ashcroft issued the following statement about the anti-terrorism legislation Congress passed today:

"I applaud the United States House and Senate for passing anti-terrorism legislation with overwhelming support to give law enforcement the additional anti-terrorism tools we need to deter and disrupt terrorism.

"Today, Congress sent a message to terrorists that they will find no safe haven in America. These tough new laws aid our anti-terrorism task forces to help defeat terrorists. I thank Congress for taking swift action and doing their part in the war against terrorism, so that law enforcement can better protect the American people.

"I ask the congressional leadership to send the President a bill to sign right away. Please don't delay; we need these anti-terrorism tools now."
