ATTORNEY GENERAL RENO TO JOIN SOLICITOR GENERAL
OF CANADA AT CROSS BORDER CRIME FORUM
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Attorney General Janet Reno and the Solicitor General of Canada, Lawrence MacAulay, will convene a meeting of the Canada - U.S. Cross Border Crime Forum on Friday, June 9 at 8:15 a.m. at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.
The Attorney General will deliver remarks at 8:30 a.m. and will then introduce the Solicitor General to deliver remarks. The Attorney General and the Solicitor General will then sign an agreement for increased law enforcement information sharing. The remainder of the meeting is closed to the press.
The Canada - U.S. Cross Border Crime forum was created in 1997 to better enable law enforcement from Canada and the U.S. to deal with transnational crime problems such as smuggling and organized crime. Agencies represented at the Forum include Solicitor General Canada and Justice Canada, the RCMP, Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, the Criminal Intelligence Service of Canada, provincial and state police, the U.S. Border Patrol, Immigration and Naturalization Service and the U.S. Department of Justice.
