GRANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

FY 2006 Public Awareness in Underserved Communities

Faith-based and community-based organizations are encouraged to apply for funding to raise the awareness of traditionally underserved populations on victims' rights as well as improve their knowledge on how to access local services available to crime victims. The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) will support the planning and development of victimization-focused public awareness campaigns targeted at underserved populations with limited English proficiency (LEP) in the local community. Victim service organizations will work in partnership with ethnic media (radio, print, television) as well as ethnic- and/or faith-based organizations to produce linguistically and culturally appropriate public awareness campaigns on one or more victimization issues. All applications are due by 12:00 midnight ET on 3/21/2006. (Apply Online) (Solicitation: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/ovc/fund/pdftxt/FY06_UnderservedAwareness.pdf)

Protecting Inmates and Safeguarding Communities Discretionary Grant Program

The 50 U.S. states, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa are eligible to apply for funding to correctional agencies for development of new initiatives and/or as a supplement to existing programs. The aim of this grant is to provide funding for programs geared toward reducing prison rape within correctional facilities. Faith-based and community-based organizations, while ineligible to apply directly for funding, are encouraged to apply for sub-grants with the State entity that is applying for Protecting Inmates and Safeguarding Communities grant funds (typically the Department of Corrections or another State criminal justice agency). Interested FBCOs should approach and educate the applying agency on the various services that they can provide to assist with prison rape elimination efforts.
