NEW GRANT FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

Victim Services Discretionary Mini-Grant Program

The Department of Justice's Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) has announced the availability of a series of mini-grants designed to enhance and expand existing victim assistance efforts to underserved victims of violent crime living in Weed and Seed communities and other high-crime areas. The grant is also designed to promote coalition building between the faith and victim assistance communities. Only those faith-based or community organizations with established crime victim assistance efforts may apply. OVC is planning to offer up to 20 grants of $15,000 each. The deadline for online applications for this grant is June 15, 2004, and the final filing deadline is June 22, 2004.

New Challenge Grant Opportunity for Faith-Based and Community-Based Organizations

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has announced the availability of approximately $2,400,000 in Fiscal Year 2004 funds for its Challenge Grant Program. Challenge Grant funds are to be used by non-profit organizations in helping them to secure previously untapped sources of private funds in order to expand their service capabilities. In order to apply and qualify for these grant funds, organizations must demonstrate how they will either expand or initiate new services to meet community needs. Recreational Services for Children Affected by HIV/AIDS

The Administration for Children and Families Bureau of the Department of Health and Human Services has announced a grant program to provide counseling, support services, and/or respite care in a recreational or camp setting for children and adolescents affected by HIV/AIDS. Projects supported by this grant are expected to serve as models for service provision to children and adolescents affected by HIV/AIDS. The application deadline for this grant is June 18, 2004.

Adolescent Family Life Abstinence Education Prevention Demonstration Projects

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced grant opportunities for programs that clearly and consistently focus on promoting abstinence as the most effective way of preventing unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. HHS will be offering approximately $305 million to fund up to 10 awards. Community- and faith-based groups are encouraged to apply. Community Food and Nutrition Program (CFNP)

The Administration for Children and Families Bureau of the Department of Health and Human Services is offering its CFNP grant program for the purpose of linking low-income people to food and assistance resources. Grant recipients will be expected to coordinate public and private food assistance resources to better serve low-income populations; assist low-income communities to identify potential sponsors of child nutrition programs and to implement such programs where necessary; and to develop innovative new methods to improve child nutrition programs at the State and local level. Street Outreach Program

The Administration for Children and Families Bureau of the Department of Health and Human Services is offering a grant program intended to provide education and prevention services to runaway, homeless and street youth, up to age 21, who have been subjected to or are at risk of sexual exploitation or abuse. The program will try to establish and build relationships between street youth and program outreach staff in order to help youth leave the streets. Faith-based and community organizations are encouraged to apply. Approximately $9 million will fund between 44 and 88 awards.
