Illinois Child Sex Assault Fugitive Nabbed in Williamson County

Austin, TX – Aurelio Duran, 45, was arrested this morning by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force at approximately 7:00 am in Florence, Texas without incident. Duran was charged in the Chicago area suburb of Round Lake Beach in February of 2008 following an investigation into an alleged sexual assault of a minor in 2001. Duran was charged with one count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child.

Duran was last seen in the Round Lake Beach area in 2005 and his whereabouts were unknown to local law enforcement. It was presumed Duran fled to Mexico in an effort to flee from the charges that were prepared to be filed. Information received by Round Lake Beach authorities indicated Duran has recently returned from Mexico and was residing in the Florence, Texas area. Lone Star Fugitive Task Force officers established surveillance at a local residence and observed Duran depart as a passenger in a vehicle. Officers initiated a car stop and arrested Duran.

Duran was remanded to the custody of the Williamson County Jail in Georgetown under a $200,000 bond, pending extradition to Lake County, Illinois in Waukegan.

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is comprised of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department, Travis, Hays, and Caldwell County Sheriff’s Departments, Austin Police Department and the U.S. Marshals.

LaFayette Collins, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, states, “The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is committed to making our communities safe and will hunt down criminals who have no regard for the rule of law.”
