Jacksonville, FL - Members of the U.S.
Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force (FRFTF) captured Albert
Dewayne Nichols, August 5th, who has been on the run since December 2007. He
is wanted by Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office (Punta Gorda, FL) for charges
of Lewd & Lascivious Molestation on a Person Less Than 16 Year of Age and 3
counts of Sexual Battery on a victim less than 12 years.
Nichols, who has a history of assaulting
children, took advantage of a mother’s trust and allegedly abused two young
sisters, aged 8 and 10, who called him Uncle Al. Charlotte County Sheriff’s
Office report numerous incidents of sexual assault; at the girls’ home, an
aunt’s home and in Nichols’ truck. Nichols allegedly would assault them by
trapping them, making threats, and using intimidation to make them submit to
his perverted sexual acts.
Late Tuesday evening an anonymous tip was
received that Nichols was possibly in the Jacksonville, FL area. Within 45
minutes of receiving the tip; the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive
Task Force had taken Nichols into custody without incident. Nichols is
currently waiting extradition to Charlotte County for prosecution.
Albert Dewayne Nichols was captured as a
result of the collaborative efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service Florida
Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office,
Major Crimes & Fugitive Apprehension Units.
The U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive
Task Force is comprised of federal, state and local law enforcement
officers. The members of the task force combine resources and efforts daily
to apprehend violent fugitives of justice in the Jacksonville area, as well
as nationwide through networking with task forces across the country.
