United States Marshals Capture
Mexican Homicide Suspect |
|
Phoenix, AZ – Late last night
Deputy U.S. Marshals and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents
captured Heriberto Castro-Arellano, 34, in the area of 70th Lane and
Baseline Rd in Phoenix.
Heriberto Castro-Arellano, a Mexican national and member of an
organized kidnapping ring, was wanted in Guadalajara, Jalisco,
Mexico for kidnapping and murder. According to Mexican authorities
Castro-Arellano was wanted in connection with a kidnapping for
ransom that occurred in March 2000, which resulted in the
strangulation death of the cousin of Castro-Arellano.
It is believed that after this incident Castro-Arellano entered and
remained in the United States illegally until Deputy U.S. Marshals
arrested him in September 2003 in Dallas, TX. Castro-Arellano was
removed from the United States following this arrest but somehow
managed to elude Mexican authorities and return to the United States
illegally.
Last night Officers located Castro-Arellano in a residence near 70th
Lane and Baseline Rd. At which time he was arrested without
incident. Castro-Arellano voluntarily returned to Mexico where he
was turned over to the Agencia Federal de Investigatcion (AFI) at
the San Luis Port of Entry.
United States Marshal David Gonzales praised the work of Deputies
and law enforcement officers adding, “An outstanding investigation
coordinated between the Mexican authorities and our Mexican
Investigative Liaison Unit resulted in a wanted murderer being
captured. It speaks highly of the cooperation across international
boundaries when fugitives think they are out of law enforcement’s
reach.”
