U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force Apprehends Sexual Battery Suspect

In an early morning operation, members of the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Fugitive Task Force captured Marlon Olivera, age 21, after forcing entry in an apartment located at 1907 Adams Street, Hollywood, FL. Olivera, a resident of Tallahassee, was currently being sought by the Tallahassee Police Department for four counts of Sexual Battery, Kidnapping, Aggravated Stalking, and Battery. Olivera had been the target of a fugitive investigation by the U.S. Marshal’s North Florida Violent Fugitive Task Force after the case was referred to the task force by the Tallahassee Police Department on December 6, 2007.

The Tallahassee Police Department received a call on December 3, 2007 in reference to a sexual battery which had occurred at an apartment complex located on Tharpe Street in Tallahassee. Though their investigation, they identified Marlon Olivera as the prime suspect of the sexual battery and kidnapping. Investigation by Task Force members indicated that Olivera had fled the Tallahassee area to South Florida in an attempt to evade arrest and he was possibly residing with family members in the Hollywood, FL area. After determining Olivera’s location, the Violent Fugitive Task Force requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s, Miami Division, for help in apprehending Olivera. When U.S. Marshals and task force members arrived at the residence early this morning, Olivera refused to allow entry to the apartment, requiring U.S. Marshals to force entry. Olivera was arrested as he attempted to flee towards a bedroom at the rear of the apartment. Olivera was booked in at the Broward County Jail as a fugitive from justice and he is awaiting removal back to Tallahassee to face the sexual battery and kidnapping charges.

U.S. Marshal Dennis Williamson stated that this case is yet another shinning example of the extraordinary cooperation between the U.S. Marshals and state and local agencies to track down and capture dangerous fugitives who are wanted for violent offenses. The United States Marshals Service in North Florida spearheads the task force which is comprised of law enforcement officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Tallahassee City Police Department, and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
