Travis County Homicide Suspect Expelled From Mexico - Arrested
 
Lone Star Fugitive Task Force LogoAustin, TX - Albert Segura, 36, of Austin was apprehended by the Procuraduria General de Justicia del Estado de Coahuila (PGJE) last night in a Cuidad Acuna neighborhood without incident. Segura was expelled from the Republic of Mexico after immigration authorities determined Segura had no legal status to remain in Mexico. Segura was handed over at approximately 11:30 pm at the Port of Entry in Del Rio, Texas to the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force where Segura was formally arrested for a homicide that occurred in Travis County last month. Segura was remanded to the custody of the Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office in Del Rio, Texas where he will await extradition to Travis County.

Segura’s arrest culminates an extensive manhunt conducted by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Rangers, Austin Police Department, US Marshals Service’s offices in Austin, Brownsville, Del Rio, San Antonio and the PGJE. Segura is alleged to have committed a murder in the 10400 block of Margra Lane near Slaughter Lane and Manchaca Road where Billy Gene Ferguson was fatally shot, Mario Rivera, 22, wounded, and the whereabouts of Ferguson’s mother, Patricia Ann Smith is still the subject of an extensive search by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.

LaFayette Collins, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas said, “The Segura investigation is a fine example of good investigative efforts, and local and international law enforcement cooperation. The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is dedicated to apprehending dangerous and violent fugitives in cooperation with our international law enforcement partners and we will not stop pursuing a fugitive until justice has been served.”

Members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Austin are the Austin Police Department – Intelligence Unit, Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department, Williamson County District Attorney’s Office, Texas Rangers, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
