GIVE.RECEIVE.MENTOR.

 The Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (OFBCI) is dedicated to creating awareness of the need for mentor programs and the actions that must be taken to create more and better programs among partners in business, healthcare, media, faith, and politics.

Every day, thousands of people have their lives enhanced by a mentor. Mentors share their experiences and wisdom as life's lessons for those willing to listen. Mentoring can be a formal or informal arrangement, at school, work or home.

The Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives encourage all Hoosiers to consider the impact they could make in someone's life by becoming a mentor. Mentors come in all shapes and sizes. They may have a Ph.D, or simply a diploma from the "School of Life". The most important qualities a mentor must possess are availability and commitment.

Mentor Advisory Council

The Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiative extends an invitation for your organization to take part in our Mentor Advisory Council initiative under the current leadership of Melissa Anderson-Traylor, AmeriCorps VISTA Mentor Outreach Associate. The council’s purpose is to collectively promote the importance and value of mentoring throughout Indiana.  The Mentor Advisory Council (MAC) was formed in 2007 as a forum for mentors and mentor agencies to:
  • Discuss issues which affect them;
  • Generate ideas for upcoming trainings and workshops;
  • Coordinate marketing resources;
  • Build a statewide network among mentor agencies;
  • Promote individual agency missions for mentoring;
  • Highlight and update activities in the monthly Give.Receive.Mentor. Newsletter;
  • Highlight and update mentor activities on the Give.Receive.Mentor. Website (www.IN.gov/2402.htm);
  • Share mentor experiences/stories at (www.in.gov/ofbci/2444.htm); Create and distribute the 31 Days of Mentoring Booklet as a tool for current mentors and individuals interested in becoming mentors.  The booklet features thirteen Indiana mentoring agencies and 18 activities for those who are currently mentors/mentees to take part in during the month of January; and
  • Spearhead National Mentoring Month in January.
