The
mission of the Illinois Division of Fisheries is to demonstrate
leadership through education and scientifically-based management
for the protection, restoration and enhancement of fisheries and
other aquatic resources, and promotion of responsible utilization
in Lake Michigan, Reservoirs, Impoundments, and Streams.
This
mission is broken down into the following broad goals:
Protection
•Protect
land and water resources from contamination by substances and
materials harmful to fish and other aquatic species.
•
Protect habitat from degradation and destruction to the fullest
extent possible.
•Protect
aquatic species, including those which are endangered or threatened
for their social and ecological values.
•
Establish regulations to protect fish and other aquatic species.
•
Protect against the introduction of undesirable aquatic organisms.
Restoration/Enhancement
•
Manage aquatic resources for optimum recreational, social and
economic benefits.
•
Manage lands and waters to provide productive ecosystems for aquatic
life.
•
Create, acquire and develop quality fishing areas.
Responsible
Utilization
•
Provide diverse opportunities for recreational and commercial
uses of aquatic resources which are compatible with the resource
base.
Education
•
Develop public awareness of ecological principles related to aquatic
resources.
•
Promote angler ethics.
•
Increase public knowledge of angling techniques and angling opportunities.
