The library science - Scielo Venezuela, covers a selected collection of Venezuelan scientific journals in different areas of knowledge. This collection includes those magazines that besides belonging to the National Register of periodic publications, have obtained a score above 50% in the Assessment of Merit which regularly conducts the National Fund for Technology and Innovation (FONACIT). Alike, these magazines have been benefiting from funding provided by the FONACIT for electronic publishing and selected by the National Advisory Committee Project Scielo Venezuela (Comite Consultivo Scielo) and constitute the first group of titles that make up the collection Scielo, along the lines and requirements suggested by the Latin American and Caribbean Center information on Health Sciences, Bireme / PAHO / WHO.

FUNDASINADIB as a centre pilot project Scielo Venezuela is committed with publishers to incorporate the new titles and numbers certified to this collection, from the collection of 28 Venezuelan journals that are still in the process of publication under Scielo and methodology can be viewed at page www2.scielo.org.ve.

Scielo is a project of regional character, and is being developed in Venezuela by the National System of documents and information Biomedicine (SINADIB), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT), the National Fund for Technology and Innovation (FONACIT), the Centre National Information Technology (CNTI) and is supported by Bireme / PAHO / WHO and the Faculty of Medicine at the Universidad Central de Venezuela (www.med.ucv.ve). The project is an initiative of scielo FAPESP (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Sao Paulo), Bireme, and since 2002 has the support of CNPq (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Scientific and Technological). It envisages the development of a common methodology for the preparation, storage, dissemination and evaluation of scientific literature in electronic form. In Venezuela Scielo Methodology was adopted in 2002 by the (TCM) as a platform for electronic publishing in full text of the Venezuelan scientific journals. This envisaged in the short term, the incorporation of new titles to the collection scielo Venezuela according to the results of the latest assessment of Merit by the FONACIT.

This is the home page of SciELO Site.

The objective of the site is to implement an electronic virtual library, providing full access to a collection of serial titles, a collection of issues from individual serial titles, as well as to the full text of articles. The access to both serial titles and articles is available via indexes and search forms.

SciELO site is an integral part of the FAPESP-BIREME Project and it is an application of the methodology being developed by the project, particularly the Internet Interface module.

The site will be constantly updated both in form and content, according to the project's advancements.

SciELO interface provides access to its serials collection via an alphabetic list of titles or a subject index or a search by word of serial titles, publisher names, city of publication and subject.

The interface also provides access to the full text of articles via author index or subject index or a search form on article elements such as author names, words from title, subject and words from the full text.
