President George W. Bush will meet Bob Scheidemantel when he arrives in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, September 22, 2004. Scheidemantel, 68, is an active volunteer with the Urban Impact Foundation in Pittsburgh.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 300 individuals around the country, like Scheidemantel, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

Scheidemantel serves at least three days a week with the Urban Impact Foundation (UIF) helping with accounting, fundraising, community relations, and grant proposals. A volunteer with UIF for the past six years, Scheidemantel also works on UIF’s “Play Ball for Kids,” a community outreach program in which Pittsburgh Steelers football players make donations to UIF athletic programs based on their accomplishments during the football season. In addition to athletic events, the foundation also offers day camps, tutoring and social events for children and their parents.

Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
