AAP to Participate in Copyright Alliance Expo
October 10, 2007, Washington, D.C.: The Association of American Publishers (AAP) will participate in the first annual Copyright Alliance EXPOnential to be held October 11 on Capitol Hill to illustrate the importance of copyright to our nation’s creative and economic vitality. The Alliance, which is composed of organizations, trade groups, associations, and corporations with a strong reliance on copyright as an engine of creative growth, is dedicated to educating policy makers and the public about the importance of copyright.
AAP will be on hand with other Alliance members to discuss with Members of Congress the need for continued and strengthened copyright protection and the impact of the copyright industries on job growth and the U.S. economy.
Various members of the Copyright Alliance including the Recording Association of America, the Motion Picture Association of America, and others will be exhibiting their products to demonstrate the vitality of these industries and their ability to drive the economy. The AAP booth will feature information on its literacy promotion campaign Get Caught Reading, the latest highlights from the School Division, and an interactive demonstration of the Higher Education group’s website, textbookfacts.org. Members of Congress who will be on hand include John Conyers (D-MI), Howard Berman (D-CA), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Adam Putnam (R-FL). Columnist and author Stuart Taylor, Jr. will also be in attendance. The Expo will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Cannon Caucus Room on Capitol Hill.
The Association of American Publishers is the national trade association of the U.S. book publishing industry. AAP’s more than300 members include most of the major commercial publishers in the United States, as well as smaller and non-profit publishers, university presses and scholarly societies. AAP members publish hardcover and paperback books in every field, educational materials for the elementary, secondary, postsecondary, and professional markets, scholarly journals, computer software, and electronic products and services. Defense of the freedom to read and the freedom to publish at home and abroad is among the Association’s highest priorities.
