Featured Volunteer Opportunity Haleakala Visitor & Jr Ranger Docent - Makawao, HI NO HOUSING AVAILABLE; OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSE
POSSIBLE. MUST HAVE OWN HOUSING AND TRANSPORTATION ON MAUI.Volunteer will
participate as a team member of the Interpretationstaff providing orientation
and information. Opportunities may be available for those with interest in
developing and presenting formal interpretive programs. The summit of Haleakalä
receives over 1.5 million visitors annually—many of which come during summer
months. Volunteer will be responsible for working independently providing
orientations, park information and guidance to visitors at one of two visitor
centers other visitor contact areas. Volunteer will play a key role in preparing
future visitors in planning their visit through telephone conversations and/or
mail correspondence. This position includes working with our Junior Rangers and
their families. These 7-12 year olds learn about a variety of natural and
cultural resources of the park and how they can act as stewards to Haleakalä and
to parks near their home. Volunteer will also assist our Hawai’i Natural History
Association staff with maintaining the sales area and operating a cash register
and credit card machine.
