Smithsonian Licensing
For more than 160 years, Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum complex and research organization, with nearly 137 million science, history, and art collection objects, has been an American icon synonymous with absolute trust and undisputed authority. Established in 1846, the Smithsonian is composed of 19 museums and galleries, as well as the National Zoological Park in Washington, D.C.

The Smithsonian Licensing program, established in 1985, engages in revenue generating activities that are compatible with the Smithsonian mission, values and reputation as well as helping to support the Institution’s scholarship and programs. In close collaboration with leading companies, the Smithsonian Licensing office ensures that all products derived from the Smithsonian’s vast holdings meet the standards of authenticity required by the Institution.

Sold under the Smithsonian Institution’s prestigious brand, Smithsonian products are also defined by their uncompromising quality, enduring value, and relevance in meeting the needs and aspirations of today’s consumers. Smithsonian licensed programs include home furnishings, children’s educational activity products and toys, graphics, publishing, collectibles, decorative gifts, tabletop, and personal accessories.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of all Smithsonian licensed products supports the Institution’s educational mission of "the increase and diffusion of knowledge."
