Reclamation is an implementing agency in the CALFED Bay-Delta Program. As described in the CALFED Final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (July 21, 2000) and the Record of Decision (August 28, 2000), the Bay-Delta Program includes strategies to address ecosystem health, water supply reliability, water quality, and levee system integrity. Water use efficiency is an important element of CALFED.
Applicants for the CALFED Water Use Efficiency Grants Program must be local public agencies involved with water management (cities, counties, joint powers authorities, or other political subdivisions of California) or incorporated mutual water companies. To be eligible for financial assistance, a proposed activity must have a defined relationship to CALFED objectives.
Proposals may include any type of implementable water use efficiency project that has measurable benefits to CALFED objectives. Projects will be selected through a competitive process that will focus on achieving the goals of the CALFED Bay-Delta Program. Grant recipients will be able to leverage their resources by cost-sharing with Reclamation on projects emphasizing water use efficiency. Reclamation can fund up to 50 percent of approved projects, not to exceed $300,000.
The Request for Proposal can be viewed at http://grants.gov/search/search.do?mode=VIEW&oppId=8067. Completed proposals and all documentation should be submitted to Ms. Evelyn Yamamoto, Bureau of Reclamation, 2800 Cottage Way, MP-3800, Sacramento, CA, 95825, by 3 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2006.
