Our Mission
To quantify and predict multi-scale forest ecosystem responses to environmental stress and develop management systems to provide healthy and sustainable forests.
Our Research
Our staff of four scientists and six science support professionals are pursuing four primary areas of research at this time: 1) Global Change effects on tree and animal habitats, 2) Using fire, thinning and herbicides to sustain oak forests, 3) Predicting the spread of emerald ash borer, and 4) Wildland fire behavior, dynamics, and effects
Research facilities are also maintained at the Vinton Furnace Experimental Forest (VFEF) in McArthur, OH, and at the Raccoon Ecological Management Area, a 16,000 acre area surrounding the VFEF.

This site is under development as the Forest Service brings together the Northeastern and North Central Research Stations to form the Northern Research Station, serving the Northeast and Midwest.
