SIRLS Alum Named Project Manager of Muscular Dystrophy Association's New Research Initiative

SIRLS alum Elizabeth Habeeb-Louks ('08) was named project manager of the Muscular Dystrophy Association's new research initiative, MDA Venture Philanthropy (MVP).

From the Arizona Daily Star (4/12/09):

"Since 2006, Habeeb-Louks has managed translational-research grants and special projects at MDA ... Launched in January, the non-profit MVP focuses solely on the funding and commercial development of treatments for neuro-muscular diseases through major donations."

UA Librarians Honored for Work on Afghan History Digitization Project

UA librarians Atifa Rawan and Yan Han were both honored by the University of Arizona this month for their work on the Afghan history project. The project is being developed to provide free digital access to unique materials held by the Afghanistan Centre at Kabul University through the University of Arizona Institutional Repository.

SIRLS Student Receives Award for Outstanding Leadership

Nicole PagowskyLate last month, SIRLS student Nicole Pagowsky received the 2009 Outstanding Graduate/Professional Student Leadership Award from the University of Arizona Graduate and Professional Student Council after being nominated by SIRLS alum Rebecca Blakiston. Pagowsky is the founder and president of the UA chapter of the Progressive Librarians Guild.

Pascua Yaqui Tribe Appoints SIRLS Alum as Librarian of New Community Library

Oscar HernandezOn February 18, 2009, the Pascua Yaqui Tribe held the grand opening of the Dr. Fernando Escalante Community Library and Resource Center. After working as a library planning consultant for the Tribe in 2008, SIRLS alum Oscar Hernandez ('07) was hired as the librarian of the center in January.
