SmartScape Program - Pima County

The Pima County Cooperative Extension SmartScape Program is a landscape water conservation and education program. We provide workshops, seminars, and field instruction specifically designed for Green Industry professionals and residential water users in the Tucson Active Management Area. Our goal is to promote efficient water use in the landscape which in turn has the potential to create savings in water, cost, maintenance, and energy.

Our professional classes currently include Smartscape, Turf Irrigation Management, and Landscape Irrigation Auditor training. Soon we will offer Advanced Smartscape and Spanish Smartscape classes.

Our residential classes, collectively referred to as WaterSmart, include instruction in drip irrigation, irrigation controllers, XeriscapeTM, rainwater harvesting, landscape water options, and desert rain gardens.

Since its inception in 1990, SmartScape has been funded through grants, gifts, and sponsorship. Our major sponsor, Tucson Water, has partnered with us all this time and makes it possible for us to provide these classes free of charge.
