The 2007 Farm Bill turned into the 2008 Farm Bill before it was finally passed on June 18, 2008.
The commodity title of the Food Conservation and Energy Act of 2008 (2008 Farm Bill) is comprised of 15 different titles (up from 10 in the previous bill). These titles include:

- Rural Development
- Research and Related Matters
- Forestry
- Energy
- Horticulture and Organic Agriculture
- Livestock
- Crop Insurance and Disaster Assistance Programs
- Commodity Futures

- Trade and Tax Provisions
For many producers, the most pressing issues with the new Farm Bill surround the potential to sign-up for the new ACRE provision in the Commodity Programs title and how the SURE program in the Crop Insurance and disaster Assistance Programs title works. The ACRE program is an option for producers that would replace the Counter-Cyclical Payment program that was introduced in the 2002 Farm Bill. The SURE program is the name given to the new permanent disaster legislation. In the coming weeks, Purdue researchers will be providing written summaries and PowerPoint presentations that summarize the pros and cons of these programs. In addition, a spreadsheet tool will be developed to help producers decided between the Counter-Cyclical Payment program and the ACRE program.
