National Research Initiative - Plant Genome

The National Research Initiative (NRI) was not reauthorized in the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (Pub. L. 110-246; i.e., the 2008 Farm Bill). We encourage you to explore funding opportunities under the new Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) competitive grants program at www.csrees.usda.gov/business/reporting/stakeholder/an_stakeholder_afri. The NRI Plant Genome Program supports research ranging from technology development to fundamental science and practical application for U.S. crop or forestry improvement. The ultimate goal of the program is to contribute knowledge about the biology of agriculturally important plant processes and traits, which can be used to develop crops with enhanced economic value and expanded utility. The program has four elements: Tools, Resources, and Bioinformatics; Functional Genomics; Genome Structure and Organization; and Applied Plant Genomics Coordinated Agricultural Project (CAP).
