The National Research Initiative (NRI) was not reauthorized in the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (Pub. L. 110-246; i.e., the 2008 Farm Bill). We encourage you to explore funding opportunities under the new Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) competitive grants program at www.csrees.usda.gov/business/reporting/stakeholder/an_stakeholder_afri. The sustainability of agriculture, forest and rangelands depends on understanding the factors that influence climate change, the mechanisms that may enhance or mitigate this change, and its effects on food and fiber production and natural resources. Program priorities are drawn primarily from the US Climate Change Strategic Plan (http://www.climatescience.gov/Library/stratplan2003/default.htm), and include human dimensions of these issues.
