Citizen Science

Citizen Science projects involve knowledgeable and motivated citizens in meaningful scientific research. Participants observe, test and report their findings to research teams that use the information to generate hypotheses or advance the understanding of a specific issue.

Collaboration between researchers and gardeners provides observations from a wide variety of sites and growing conditions to advance our understanding of matters such as the ecology of pests and how environmental or cultural practices influences plant health, plant performance and the environment. Together we build gardening success and environmental stewardship.

Current projects:

Vegetable Varieties for Gardeners
Gardeners visit the site to rate and review varieties and read what varieties are working well -- or not so well -- for other gardeners.

Viburnum Leaf Beetle Citizen Science
Team up with Cornell researchers and other gardeners, landscapers, school- and 4-H groups to gather information that can help reduce the damage caused by this new pest.
