ARTEMIS WILDLIFE FOUNDATION

Artemis Wildlife Foundation is a 501(C)3 corporation whose mission is to further educational and community-based efforts which demonstrate the interdependence of human culture and ecology. Founded in 1982, Artemis implements this mission by pursuing two program areas:

Education:
Artemis produces educational documentary films and public radio programs. "Home Ground: Changes and Choices in the American West " is a half-hour weekly public affairs program broadcast on forty-three NPR stations in the Rocky Mountain West. Brian Kahn, Artemis president and executive director, serves as program host. Artemis award-winning documentaries about the interdependence of people and nature have included Return of the Desert Bighorn, A Walk Through Pine Butte Swamp, and A Thousand Cranes. The latter depicts American-Soviet cooperation to save the endangered Siberian crane from extinction. A parable about the threat to human life posed by the Cold War, the film won numerous awards, including a CINE Golden Eagle and the President of Italy Medal at the Salerno International Film Festival. The film was screened at a special showing at the United Nations.

Conservation:
Artemis, through its Common Ground Project, initiates and facilitates community-based conservation efforts which demonstrate the interdependence of human, cultural and ecological needs. Common Ground works directly with resource-dependent people and communities to implement economic strategies compatible with ecological and cultural integrity.
