Reed to Give MacVicar Scholar Lecture at OSU

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Shannon Reed, a third-year resident in large animal surgery at Oregon State University, will give the annual MacVicar Scholar Award lecture on Thursday, May 22, in Magruder Hall Room 102.

Her talk, which begins at 4 p.m., will focus joint and bone disorders in llamas. It is free and open to the public.

Reed has a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from the University of Missouri and also is pursuing a master’s degree in clinical sciences from the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine. She is active in research and is working on several studies involving llamas and horses. Among her projects are studies looking at hyperextension and instability of joints in llamas and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory remedies for horses.

The title of her lecture is: “Morphologic and Biochemical Characterization of Suspensory Apparatus Breakdown and Fetlock Hyperextension in the Llama.”

The lecture is named for former OSU President Robert MacVicar and his wife, Clarice, who established the award in 1996 to support interdisciplinary research and education programs in animal health.

About the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine: The primary mission of the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine is to serve the people of Oregon and the various livestock and companion animal industries by furthering the understanding of animal medical practices and procedures. Through research, clinical practice and extension efforts in the community, the college provides Oregon's future veterinarians with one of the most comprehensive educations available anywhere.
