One-Act Plays by Students Featured at OSU

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University Theatre will present a series of student-written, original one-act plays starting June 5.

Performances are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. June 5-7 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at Withycombe Hall, at 30th and Campus Way on the OSU campus.

Tickets are available at the University Theatre box office in Withycombe Hall from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday the week of the performance, and on performance evenings at 7:30 p.m. and for the Sunday matinee at 1:15 p.m. Tickets are also available at http://www.oregonstate.edu\dept\theatre. They are priced at $8 general admission, $6 for seniors and $4 for students.

Five undergraduate students will make their directorial debuts, under the supervision of Charlotte Headrick, a professor of theater arts. The five plays are: “The Couldabeen Hamlet,” “Practical Magic,” “War,” “The Boy in the Basement” and “The Boor.”

“The Couldabeen Hamlet,” written by Joe Feinstein and directed by Arianne Jacques, is a comedy that imagines Shakespeare and three of the actors from his troupe discussing changes to “Hamlet” the night before it opens. The cast includes Ajai Tripathi, Feygon Nickerson, David Partin, and Dieter Rudolph.

“Practical Magic” is a play written by Shannon Keith Kelley and directed by Nicholas Sheler. The amusing play deals with two couples going through pregnancy and the apprehension of becoming new parents. The cast includes Matt Smith, Tory Mobley, Jeff Nichols, and Jessi Meyer.

“War,” a challenging play by Bill Bozzone, is directed by Aislyn Marshall. This drama centers on a young man’s desire to escape the confines of his home that he shares with his widowed mother, Pauline. The cast includes Dan E. Mueller, Brianne Kiso and KC Harris.

“The Boy in the Basement” tells the story of a middle-aged man who still lives with his parents and has a shocking secret. The play is directed by Katherine Krissie and stars Marco Clark, Joel Southall, Amy Rowles and Jake Daggett. It is written by William Inge.

“The Boor” is a farce by famous playwright Anton Chekhov. Directed by Arin Dooley, the play centers on a misogynistic man and an ultra-feminine woman who are battling over money. Matt Holland, Lacey Anna Nolan and Brody Boyd star.

George Caldwell and Kevin Walker are the technical supervisors for the production and the costume designer is Barbara Mason.
