‘Leading through Ethics’ Topic of Lecture at OSU


CORVALLIS, Ore. – Three leaders from West Coast community colleges will speak about leading through ethics on Friday, April 4, beginning at 7 p.m. as part of the fourth annual Charles Carpenter Memorial Lecture at Oregon State University.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Powell Leadership Center in the Memorial Union on the OSU campus.

The speakers are all alumni of the Community College Leadership Program at OSU. They are: Linda Berry, vice president of instruction at Merritt College in California, Susan Kostick, founder of Susan Kostick and Company in the Seattle area, and James Sorensen, president of Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Ore.

The title of their presentation is: “Three Views, One Challenge: Leading through Ethics in the Community College.”

Betty Duvall, an emeritus professor who directed and taught in the Community College Leadership Program at OSU for 10 years, will give the introductions. A reception will follow the lecture.

The Charles Carpenter Memorial Lecture was established in 2004 to honor the work and memory of Charles Carpenter, a founder of the Community College Leadership Program in the College of Education at OSU. The program prepares teachers and administrators for leadership roles in technical and community colleges and similar organizations.
