CORVALLIS, Ore. – Three summer camps focused on career and educational opportunities for Latino elementary, middle and high school students are offered in July and August by the Oregon State University Extension Service 4-H Youth Development Program.

The camps will be for four or five days at the Oregon 4-H Conference and Education Center, about eight miles northwest of Salem.

Some scholarships are available to cover a portion of the $100 cost of each camp, which includes meals and lodging.

For more information and to register, contact Mario A. Magaña at 541-737-0925, mario.magana@oregonstate.edu or go online to: oregon.4h.oregonstate.edu

A four-day high school camp, "Opening Roads and Reaching Dreams," will run July 11–14. Career opportunities will be discussed in engineering, education, languages, natural resources, technology, nutrition and history and culture. Other topics are the college admission process and financial aid resources. Participating students also will have an opportunity to talk with successful Latinos in a variety of professional careers and engage in team-building sports.

The 4-H International Summer Camp for middle school students will be Aug. 10-14. Participants also will learn about career opportunities and discuss the importance of continuing their education, getting good grades and pursuing postsecondary education.

Elementary school students who have finished third, fourth and fifth grades are invited to the 4-H International Summer Camp Aug. 16–19 at the Center. Students will participate in arts and crafts and music and dancing, and learn about natural resources, technology, nutrition and history. They will discuss the importance of education, doing well in school and getting good grades.
