OSU and WSU Extension to Co-Host Forest Owners Field Day on Aug. 23

ASTORIA, Ore. - The Regional Forest Owners Field Day, co-sponsored by the Extension Service programs at Oregon State University and Washington State University, will focus on recovery from last winter’s windstorm and flooding damage.

This daylong event will be on Saturday, Aug. 23, near Naselle, in southern Washington, not far from Astoria.

“Family forest landowners in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington were hit hard by the storm last December,” said Glenn Ahrens, OSU Extension forester for Clatsop and Tillamook counties in Oregon. The field day will offer instruction on more than 20 topics – many of which should be of interest to landowners in both Oregon and Washington.

Knowledgeable instructors from across the region will cover topics such as salvaging blow down, managing a timber sale, maintaining and repairing forest roads, reforestation, forest health, thinning and pruning and much more.

More than 5,600 landowners have participated in this out-in-the-woods educational event, said Ahrens.

Gates open 8 a.m. and presentations start at 9 a.m. Persons who register before Aug. 19 will pay $20 per person or $30 for two. Registration on the day of the event is $30 per person and $40 for two or more.

A registration brochure, which also has information on lunch options and mobility assistance, is available at: http://www.ncw.wsu.edu/foreststewardship/events.htm.
