Young to Publishing Group (YPG)
The Young to Publishing Group (YPG) is an initiative of the Association of American Publishers' (AAP) Diversity, Recruit & Retain Committee that strives to give entry-level and junior industry employees (typically with 0 - 5 years of book publishing experience) a chance to build a community outside of their own publishing house and to educate themselves about the industry as a whole. Membership is free and open to all "young" (not far advanced in growth, junior, lacking experience) persons currently employed by a book-publishing house.
The YPG organizes several programs to help you find your place in the book publishing community:
Monthly Brown Bag Lunches:
A lunch hour event where YPG members can learn about the many aspects of publishing through the guidance of a guest speaker. Time is set aside for networking and the ever-popular book swap. more
YPG Newsletter:
Distributed quarterly via email to all YPG members, the Newsletter is a great way to learn about the industry, find out what the YPG is planning next, and otherwise keep in touch with the publishing world. more
YPG Little Big Mouth List:
Designed to provide publicity and marketing departments a list of readers to create "buzz" for a book, having your name on the Little Big Mouth List means free galleys and books from various publishers. more
YPG Social Events:
Get to know your publishing peers outside of office hours at quarterly YPG social events. more
Most YPG events are based in New York City, but there are thriving chapters in Boston and San Diego. To learn more about joining a chapter or starting a chapter in your city, send an email to kly@publishers.org.
