This is the first confirmed report of this serious plant pest in the United States and is a direct threat to the ornamental palm and coconut industries in Florida, Alabama, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Texas.

The rusty crayfish (Orconectes rusticus), an aggressive, non-native, and invasive species, was first discovered in the Monocacy River in north-central Maryland on Jun 28, 2007. It was later discovered in Maryland's portion of the Susquehanna River watershed.
