Identification guide for common and exotic snails

Giant African Snail (Achatina fulica)

Common size 5-10cm.
Maximum size 20-30cm.
Not native to Australia. 
Prescribed and notifiable pest.
Moist habitats such as leaf litter, thick shrubs and timber piles.

Native.  Northeast NSW and Southeast QLD.
Typically found in rainforests and wet open forests.

Common Garden Snail (Helix aspersa)

Widely distributed throughout Australia.
Typically found in suburban gardens.


 

Green Snail (Helix aperta)
