Social and Economic Dimensions of Ecosystem Management

Effectively managing natural resources requires more than understanding ecosystems. It also involves understanding how people interact with them. How people live, work and recreate in forests and other natural areas, coupled with their perceptions, values and goals, affect how successful natural resource management will be.

We study the many interactions between people and ecosystems. With our findings, natural resource managers and policy-makers can make the most informed management decisions possible for the nation’s natural resources – decisions that benefit both people and the environment. More.
