Development of Intellectual Property Law

Among WIPO's principal tasks is promoting the progressive development and harmonization of intellectual property laws, standards, and practices among its member states. Encouraging the growth of international common priniciples and rules governing intellectual property requires extensive consultations with states and other interested groups.

Development of intellectual property law activities at WIPO reflect the two major categories of intellectual property. They include development of Industrial Property Law and development of Copyright Law. WIPO's Cooperation for Development Program, as well as its program of Cooperation with Countries in Transition, provide legal and technical assistance in assisting countries develop strong intellectual property laws and systems.
