LATINO VOICES FOR AMERICA

About PLVA

AAP formed the Publishing Latino Voices for America Task Force in 2002 in response to the burgeoning market of books by and for Latinos with a mission to address those issues that are of particular concern to publishers in this market. Membership in the Publishing Latino Voices for America Task Force is open to all AAP Member Publishing Companies.

AAP launched Latino Books Month in June, 2004, to celebrate the wide variety of books by and for Latinos, in English and Spanish. The task force created a Latino Summer Reading List that can serve as a sampling of what is available, as well as a 36-page Publishing Latino Voices for America brochure with information on a broader listing of titles by and for Latinos. Resources are now available for Latino Books Month May 2008.

The task force's primary goal for 2008 is to heighten awareness and understanding - both among consumers and among those in the industry - of books published by Latinos, which appeal to all audiences, Latino and non-Latino. With a focus on children's books in 2008, and to support the festivities being held nationwide on April 30 in celebration of El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day 2008), the Publishing for Latino Voices Task Force and the Association for Library Services to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), organizers of the event, partnered to create the recommended reading list of children’s books in both English and Spanish for ages infancy -14 years for parents and others who choose books for children. For a copy of the reading list in .pdf click here.dialistFINAL part 1dialistFINAL part2
