Business Programs that Help the Environment

Environmentally-friendly business practices not only protect New York's resources, but also benefit organizations and businesses by making their operations more economical and efficient. This website tells how DEC helps businesses and organizations develop and implement new operating practices, and recognizes their successes.

New York Environmental Leaders (NYEL) is an environmental leadership program for New York businesses and organizations. The goal of NYEL is to motivate businesses and organizations to voluntarily implement Environmental Management Systems (EMSs), which are sets of management tools and principles to create the administrative procedures that an organization needs to integrate environmental concerns into its daily business practices.

Any organization can benefit from an EMS, which provides a framework for managing environmental responsibilities in a more systematic manner. The website includes DEC policy promoting EMSs, and a three-step guide that will help your business or organization create an EMS that fits your operation.
