The CFANS Diversity Programs Office, CFANS Student Board, and GLBT Programs Office invite you to a FREE screening of the film "For the Bible Tells Me So." This event will take place on Thursday, December 4, at 7:00 pm in the theater of the St. Paul Student Center. This event is free and open to the public; snacks will be provided. Guests are invited to stay for a panel discussion following the film. The panel will speak about issues faced by GLBT members of faith communities.
During the fall 2008 semester, Professor Bud Markhart took the students to the Dream of Wild Health Farm, a farm dedicated to the preservation of indigenous Minnesota seeds, in Hugo, Minnesota. Visit the Department of Horticulture Science website to read about their class trip.
Students will examine the historical, contemporary, and often adversarial relationship between Native American worldviews of the environment and traditional western views of earth sciences. Students will understand the social constructs that legitimizes and promotes one set of scientific protocols and beliefs over another.
The seminar will focus on American Indian ways of knowing the environment through discussion, guest speakers, site visits near the U of M campus, lectures, and community service learning experiences. Please contact Mark Bellcourt with questions.
