Intervale Center - Sustaining People, Land and Farms

The Intervale Center seeks to nurture and sustain farms,
land, and people. We manage 350 acres of farmland, nursery, compost production, trails, and wildlife corridors along the Winooski River in Burlington, Vermont. And we share what we learn and do with others across our state and around the country.

The Intervale Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to develop farm- and land-based enterprises that generate economic and social opportunity while protecting natural resources.

Since 1988, we have pursued this mission by preserving and managing 350 acres of land, supporting viable farms, increasing access to local and organic food, improving soil fertility, protecting water quality through stream bank restoration, and educating young people about agriculture and healthy food. Through these efforts, we have established an exceptional agricultural and environmental resource within the city limits of Burlington.

Each of our enterprises and programs contributes to the development of a sustainable local food system. A sustainable local food system integrates farming, food processing, distribution, and consumption in ways that enhance the environmental, economic, social, and nutritional health of a particular place.
