DIVERSITY AT NCAT

NCAT is a diverse organization working to embrace even greater diversity. With offices in Montana, Arkansas, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Louisiana and California, the organization benefits from the geographical diversity of staff members located in distinctly different regions. In addition, the staff bring a wide variety of backgrounds, educations, and experiences to their positions at NCAT. The staff members span a wide range of ages, speak numerous languages, and possess an amazing array of interests and histories. These different characteristics in daily interaction help to create the rich tapestry that is NCAT.

Diversity Policy

NCAT values and respects diversity as a commitment to recognize, understand and appreciate the variety of characteristics that make individuals unique.

Examples of these characteristics generally include race, gender, age, religion, disability, national origin and sexual orientation. Diversity may also encompass an infinite range of unique individual experiences including economic background, cognitive style, physical appearance, education, political affiliation, languages spoken, marital/partner status and geographic background.

NCAT commits to striving for increased diversity among our employees, our vendors and our clients.

Promoting Diversity

NCAT InternsA range of programs and practices are specifically designed to promote and encourage diversity at NCAT.

  • John Brown Minority Internship Fund supplements living expenses to make internships possible for minority students
  • Internship agreement with the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff helps recruit minority interns on a continuing basis.
  • Job descriptions avoid artificial barriers to minority employment.
  • Recruiting includes historically minority institutions, media, and churches.
  • Minority vendors are actively sought.
  • NCAT conducts outreach and project development in diverse communities.

Progress Toward Diversity

In recent years, NCAT has made significant progress in its efforts to promote diversity among staff and clients. Recruitment, and particularly intern recruitment, now reaches more minority--including tribal--institutions and attracts more diverse applicants.

NCAT's minority employment history illustrates that the percentage of minority staff has risen steadily over the past five years, from 3% to 9% of employees. This exceeds diversity levels for some counties where NCAT has operations, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Meanwhile, NCAT's intern history also shows a significant proportion of minority interns.

It's also worth noting that NCAT's staff shows wide diversity in age, and that managerial, program and technical staff enjoy a near gender balance.
