Description: Employment in Louisiana's forest products industry, unlike employment in the other 12 Southern States, decreased significantly between 1970 and 1980. Despite this decrease, the value added by the industry increased. The productivity of Louisiana's forest products industry ranked second among the 13 States in the South. In 1980, lumber and wood products accounted for the largest share of the industry's employment, but paper and allied products had a larger share of the earnings. In 1977, paper and allied products had higher productivity than either lumber and wood products or wood furniture.
