Description: This issue of Forest Research Notes is devoted to abstracts of projects under way or recently completed by the Section of Forest Products. This section conducts research designed to contribute to better and more economic utilization of the products of the forest. As shown by the variety of subjects presented in these notes, the projects range from the statistics of production, which is carried on in cooperation with the Bureau of the Census, through the improvement of manufacturing methods, to improvements in the utilization of unavoidable waste in both woods and mill. Its research is by no means confined to the problems arising in the management of public timber lands; it also aims to serve the operator on private timberlands, the sawmill owner and the consuming public. Tho Section of Products functions as a representative of the United States Forest Products Laboratory at Madison, Wisconsin, making available to the citizens of the Pacific Northwest the findings and application of the research of this agency.
