Description: Early in 1979 we surveyed forest managers and researchers in a number of northern countries to identify topics in forest management of circumpolar interest. Responses most frequently centered on problems of forest regeneration and related harvesting practices. As a result, an international workshop was held in Fairbanks, Alaska, on 13-15 November 1979, to obtain a perspective of forest regeneration at high latitudes.
